Sardegna Rally Race ha started! Day "zero". After the preliminary cheks, finally it is Cross-Country Rally World Championship. A start with 69 riders! 69. It's an important number. Evocative side apart, it’s a share we never see in the World Championship calendar. It is also a comforting news, of course, but not a real scoop. For the Sardegna Rally Race the annual record is a customary page. People and Riders loves Sardinia and the Rally organized by Bile Village.
Five stages, nine Special Stages, a total of 1500 kms in a large ring that touches San Teodoro, Arbatax, Oristano and San Leonardo, flowing through across this land of enchantment, and that will return to San Teodoro to celebrate its epilogue. This is the Sardegna Rally Race 2014.
The beginning is for the show, with a touch of objective: to conquer the preferred starting position in the first stage. The first fifteen classified Riders of the prologue will have this privilege. The theatre of the small battle is a small cross circuit located at Vena Fiorita, an historic "ground" near Olbia, and the privilege award will be to chose the starting order in the next stage between San Teodoro and Arbatax. A small, albeit tactically important goal, but the main purpose is to offer the show, and to shake off the anxiety of waiting.
Joan Barreda is the first winner of the 2014 Edition. With a time of less than two minutes. So the official Honda Rider HRC resumes its march from where he had left it after the victory in Qatar. Barreda is also the leader of the standings after three rounds of the World Championship, just in front of compatriot Marc Coma, the winner of the Dakar 2014, and team-mate Paulo Gonçalves, World Champion in charge. Coma finished the prologue in third place, behind even the Portuguese Patreo Abrantes, Gonçalves was ninth. Yes, all the best are there, and the World Championship can really start over. But not only Aces has been attracted by the formidable competition set in a terrific place, Sardinia. Along with the incredible trio there is also Joan Pedrero, Jordi Viladoms, Alessandro Botturi, Ruben Faria, Mickael Metge, Helder Rodrigues, Gerard Farres. Well, we would first to say who is not there. Or we could synthesize remembering that there is all the Official Teams. HRC Honda, KTM, Yamaha, Gas Gas, Sherco.
And at the very last moment voilà: Stephane Peterhansel! Not expected, a surprise for everyone. No, the record holder of the Dakar story does not run, he has come to take a ride in Sardinia and to stay a few days with friends. His immediate future, not yet written, obviously does not grant him the necessary concentration to fight this year. It will be for next year, says the number ONE.
