Together, after almost two days crossing the ocean, competitors and organization staff of the Africa Eco Race 2017 arrived to Nador in Morocco at 6 am. The first special stage in Moroccan soil was a warm-up stage to allow everyone to take their marks. For Thierry Magnaldi and Francois Borsotto, this Africa Race starts quite well as they inaugurate their first participation with the 2WD buggy marking a stage win with more than 4 minutes and 30 seconds in front of Mathieu Serradori and 6 on Dominique Housieaux.
“We’ve had a nice sea crossing, tells Thierry Magnaldi. The ocean was calm and we arrived to Nador early this morning. After completing all the formalities to enter to Morocco, we took the 50 km of liaison, then we took the start of the special stage. We started the race with a controlled and clean rhythm to get to know the 2WD buggy better, and get organized with the road-book because there were several changes of direction through the special stage! Little by little, we passed the competitors in front of us, and those that made navigation mistakes or had mechanical issues. We went straight ahead to a dangerous section and we had to do 200 m to go back. Besides that, everything worked well, and mostly the buggy, which is very nice to drive! However, it’s cold in Morocco, I’ve never seen snow in the top of the mountains around Er Rachidia.”
Tomorrow, a special stage between Domaine Moulay and Tagounite waits for the competitors of the Africa Eco Race 2017.
